TEXT for [OR]
[OR]ientation 1 :
Imagine yourself in a car heading South. Over the Alps, for a vacation. You do not have
much time, but once you arrive you will have all the time in the world. You
will be a different person when you get there. Relaxed, happy, alive. You can
sit all afternoon in a sunny cafe, drinking a casual glass of wine, eyeing the
pretty girls. The newspapers will not follow you here, not today. All that matters
is that the weather is perfect, and even that does not really matter. You are
already there if you want to be, and you know that is what you want.
[OR]ientation 2 :
Imagine yourself in a car heading South. Only you have forgotten something at home.
You will pass several borders, and there may be complications. It has been so
long since you came this way. Things have changed so much in recent years. Do
you still have to show travel documents? Are there even signs to tell when a
checkpoint is approaching? Certainly the terrain gives no clue. One vista blends
seamlessly into the next. Breath-taking. Larger than life. Vast enough to make
you forget those papers back on your desk.
[OR]ientation 3 :
Imagine yourself in a car heading South. The motorway is direct, but there are other
side roads you could also take. Scenic spots you might stop. And if you lose
your way, you simply start again. Over and over as many times as you like. In
as many different cars heading South and further South. You can race yourself
to the best tables, order both the pasta from Menu A and the menestra from Menu
B, watch later and later sunsets. And this way, the vacation does not ever have
to end. You are always at your rendezvous point somewhere.
[OR]ientation 4 :
Imagine yourself in a car heading South. You planned your route carefully, and you're
right on schedule, so you don't have to think about it. You know where you are
moment by moment. You are on auto-pilot, fixed in one-point perspective, almost
standing still. Is the South rushing up to meet you? Or is the South a receding
horizon, the milestones getting further and further apart? When does here become
somewhere else? There is no way to tell, but it makes no difference. The journey
will take exactly as long as you wanted to drive.
[OR]ientation 5 :
Imagine yourself in a car heading South. Your destination is far, but everything will
be fine once you get there. Even if you do not get there yourself, the other
passengers will. They will be happy you started them in this direction. It is
much better than leaving them a map. You are giving them the car and driving
lessons.
[OR]ientation 6 : When your life flashes before your eyes,
Imagine yourself in a car heading South. You know where you
are going because you have been there before. Or did you read about it in a
book? You look for the turnoff sign and immediately there it is. That mountain
looks just like a postcard. Maybe you have been heading this way your whole
life. A favourite retreat.
which direction does it go?
The burning rope. The flickering frame.
The empty cascade between this moment and the next.
